- Take 1 cup rasted sooji or rava
- Take 1/2 tsp ghee

Steps to make Upma vada:
- For upma : To prepare the upma, heat oil in a kadai and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves. Let them splutter then add the chopped green chillies, grated ginger, chopped onions, tomatoes and saute well.
- Add the salt, ginger garlic paste and saute for few seconds. Then add the water. Allow it to get a boil. Meanwhile roast the sooji or rava in ghee. When the water gets boiled add this roasted sooji into it by continously mixing so that no lumps are formed. Cover the lid and let it cook till the water evaporates.
- For Vada: Take one cup of the prepared upma when completely cooled. Add rice flour, salt to it and knead into soft dough. Rice flour quantity can be adjusted depending on the softness of dough. From the dough make lemon sized balls and flatten them using palms and make a hole in between it to get vada shape.
- Heat oil in a kadai and deep fry the vada's on medium flame till they turn golden brown and crispy. Serve warm with tomato sauce.
