Steps to make Undrallu Naivedhyam

(Savoury rice dumplings):

  1. Soak the chana dal in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a heavy bottomed pan
  3. Add the asafoetida,cumin seeds and let the seeds splutter.
  4. Add the soaked chana dal and saute for 2 minutes.
  5. Now add water and let it come to a boil.
  6. Once boiling, add rice rava and salt to it
  7. Mix well cook covered a low flame for 5-7 minutes by stirring occasionally
  8. Once the mix comes together, turn off the heat and leave it aside to cool down a bit.
  9. Once the mix is cool enough to handle, add 2 teaspoon ghee and mix
  10. Grease your hands and take a small portion out of the mixture.
  11. Shape it into a round ball.
  12. Repeat the same step with rest of the mixture
  13. Set a steamer/idli cooker on stove with 1 cup of water to boil
  14. Place the prepared balls on idli plates
  15. Place the idli plates in the idli cooker
  16. Steam cook the undrallus on a high flame for 10 minutes.
  17. Switch off the heat, but keep the undrallus in steam for sometime,after which take them off on a plate
  18. Offer to the lord as naivedhyam
  19. Serve your family while warm,on a bed of peanut chutney(or any chutney of your choice)
