Instructions to make Undrallu Naivedhyam
(Savoury rice dumplings):
- Soak the chana dal in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a heavy bottomed pan
- Add the asafoetida,cumin seeds and let the seeds splutter.
- Add the soaked chana dal and saute for 2 minutes.
- Now add water and let it come to a boil.
- Once boiling, add rice rava and salt to it
- Mix well cook covered a low flame for 5-7 minutes by stirring occasionally
- Once the mix comes together, turn off the heat and leave it aside to cool down a bit.
- Once the mix is cool enough to handle, add 2 teaspoon ghee and mix
- Grease your hands and take a small portion out of the mixture.
- Shape it into a round ball.
- Repeat the same step with rest of the mixture
- Set a steamer/idli cooker on stove with 1 cup of water to boil
- Place the prepared balls on idli plates
- Place the idli plates in the idli cooker
- Steam cook the undrallus on a high flame for 10 minutes.
- Switch off the heat, but keep the undrallus in steam for sometime,after which take them off on a plate
- Offer to the lord as naivedhyam
- Serve your family while warm,on a bed of peanut chutney(or any chutney of your choice)
