The ingredients needed to make Sarkarai Pongal:
- Make ready 100 gm Raw rice
- Take 50 gm Yellow moong dal
- Get 100 gm Jaggery
- Make ready 150 gm Ghee
- Make ready as needed Cashew and raisins
- Get 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
Sakkarai pongal recipe - traditional temple style sakkarai pongal recipe. Traditionally sweet pongal is made with just jaggery rice and moong dal as main ingredients. Sweet Pongal is also known as sakkarai pongaL In Tamil language and is a sweet dish made during festive occasions in South India. Another similar variation is this Chakkara Pongal made with sugar.
Instructions to make Sarkarai Pongal:
- Wash rice and dal cook it in a pressure cooker.Add 600 gm water. Cook upto 5 whistle.
- Break jaggery and add little water until it immerse.cook it till no lumps filter and cool it.
- When rice is ready add jaggery water to it. Wait till it tightens add cardamom powder and cashew and raisins
Amma make sweet pongal, ven pongal, medu vada, and raw banana chips. She also make sambar, and some kind of pongal kulambu to go with it. I will post pictures of our celebration in my other blog.
