  1. Rinse the yellow split pea and urad dal thoroughly in water and soak it for about 3-4 hours in water. Once the dals are soaked, coarsely grind it in the mixer grinder or food processor.
  2. Take the dal batter in a mixing bowl and add onion, green chilli, coriander, ginger and salt to taste mix well all the ingredients. As you see in the picture mix well the ingredients. check the seasoning of batter and if required add a little salt and mix it well.
  3. To fry dal vada, heat oil in a frying pan/ kadhai. Once the oil is hot take a portion of vada batter and carefully put it in hot oil.
  4. Fry the vada till it is golden in colour. With the help of strainer take the vada out.
  5. Place the vada on the paper napkin/ kichen towel so that excess oil will get soaked. Delicious dal vada are ready to serve.

It makes me wonder if next time I go out for Afghan food I'll feel the need to order the dal So this is my version of the Afghan split pea dal that I had a few weeks ago. If you picked this off of an Afghan menu, it would probably be called dal chalaw. Drain, rinse & cover with fresh water & bring to a boil. Sprinkle with the paprika & mix well.
